Web Hosting Reviews To Help You

Top 5 Web Hosting Charts was established to help you find the best web hosting for your needs. We make it our job to find and rate the top web hosts on the net and use this site to present our web hosting ratings to you. There are a number of web hosting companies out there that have horrible customer support and are difficult to work with. Unfortunately, these same web hosting companies know that they can still bring in the clients by offering high affiliate commissions. That means third party web sites will still rank their web hosting services as high even when they really aren't.
We don't operate that way.
Instead, we strive to find the best web hosting services and rate them based on our own experiences. We also review web hosting forums to determine how other clients feel about each particular host. You can rest assured that any web hosting company that doesn't provide the highest quality web hosting service and customer support will never make our Top 5 Web Hosting Charts.
We are currently recommending the following hosts (click on each to read the full review):
Bluehost.com
Lunarpages
midPhase
Hostrocket
Hostgator
You may also review our at a glance best web hosting chart.
How Do We Conduct Our Web Hosting Reviews?
The hosts are rated based on reliability, value, and customer support.
The best web hosting companies must have a 99% or higher uptime. The last thing you want is to go to the trouble of setting up your site and driving traffic to it only to experience lots of downtime. While no host can be perfect, reliability is a major factor. When we first started out, we had the misfortune of choosing a popular web host that was down at least 5 hours every week (obviously, they aren't recommended here).
Customer Service is also a very important factor. Even if you know what you are doing, you will likely have problems or questions. The top hosts have superior customer service support which include a number of methods for contacting them and friendly, professional support.
Both reliability and customer service are rated based on our own experiences with these hosts as well as the reviews of others.
Value is an easy one to gauge. Value is based on the web hosting package offered such as; storage space, bandwidth and number of domains that can be hosted on an account. We also take into account the extra features like the webhosting control panel available.
All of the web hosting services that make it to our top 5 chart are quick to set up your hosting account. We look for hosts that can set up your account within 24 hours or less.
At the top of each web hosting review, you will see a chart that shows the hosts rating based on value, features, storage space, bandwidth, and customer service. Each of these will be rated from 1 to 5 (with 5 being the highest). Under the chart, we provide you with a total score which is the rating the host received divided by the total score (currently 30). We show you this score as a percent. The absolute best hosts on our list will have a score of 90% or above.
It can be difficult to score hosts with such detail (because factors change all the time). Therefore, all of the hosts on our top 5 web host chart get our seal of approval. You may want to investigate them and decide which one to use based on your needs.

What is a Web Host?

A Web Host is simply a company that provides you with server space for your website. This includes all of your web pages, graphics, scripts and files.

When your web address is typed into a browser, your web host is being contacted to locate and display the requested page.

Free Vs. Professional Web Hosts

All Web Hosts are not created equally. There are a number of free hosting services available on the Internet. However, if you're designing a website for business purposes, you should NEVER host your website with a free host.

In order to establish credibility, you must be willing to invest in your own domain name and professional web hosting. Websites hosted on free servers are not taken seriously and will suffer a serious loss of business.

Your visitors may feel that if you don't have your own domain, you may not be a credible company. They'll simply take their business elsewhere.

Not only is professional credibility a great reason not to host with a free service, but many Search Engines won't even index a site hosted on a free server.

In addition, free hosting services don't need to have a reason to shut your site down. You may get up one morning, try to access your site and instead of your site loading, you may receive an error message. There goes all your hard work, your website, your traffic, your Search Engine positioning, your customers -- all gone.

Free hosting services aren't interested in your business or how hard you've worked to design your website
and create a steady stream of traffic. Their main concern is their business. That's why they're doing it. They display banner ads on every site they host.

If you're serious about your business and you have a sincere desire to succeed, having your own domain name is a must. It's not a luxury, it's a necessity. Businesses using the free services are not taken seriously. Having your own domain name is just as important as a professional looking web site. They go hand-in-hand.

The cost to register your Domain name ranges from $9 - $35 per year, very reasonable and well worth every dime.

Selecting a Domain Name

When trying to select a good domain name, there are many factors that need to be taken into consideration.

Try to select a domain name that contains your most important keywords, as some Search Engines place relevancy on them.

Although there are many new domain extensions available, .com or .net is still the best choice.

Example:

yourdomain.com
yourdomain.net

Keep in mind, it's usually best to select a web host prior to registering your domain name. Most quality web hosting companies will register your domain name for you.
Guidelines:

- Try to select a domain name that contains your most important keyword.
- Try to select a domain name that will be easily remembered.
- Try to avoid using abbreviations or anything that will be difficult for your visitors to remember.
- Try to keep your domain name as short as possible.

Take your time and select a quality Domain name that will grow with your business.

Selecting a Web Host

When selecting a professional web host, your first consideration should be the company. Check out their background. Talk to some of their customers and ask them if they've been satisfied with their service.

- Do they offer fast connections?
- Do they have a back-up system in place to protect your data in case there is a power outage?
- Do they require you to make payments in advance?
- Do they require a long-term contract?
- Do they charge set up fees?
- How is their customer support? Test them.
- Do they provide you with free access to a secure server for order processing?
- Do they offer shopping cart software to process your orders?
- Do they provide you with an online Web Site Manager?
- Do they provide you with an online support manual?

Ask for references. Talk with some of their customers and ask them if they have been satisfied.

Here are some basic features you should look for when selecting a web host:

- 24/7 reliable tech support
- Your own domain name (www.yourname.com)
- At least 10GB of monthly transfer (traffic)
- A minimum of 20MB - 50MB of server space
- Unlimited true POP email accounts - name@yourdomain.com
- Unlimited email aliases
- Email forwarding
- Unlimited auto responders
- Your own unrestricted CGI-Bin
- Access to SSL Encryption for secure transactions
- MySQL Database
- Perl
- htaccess password protection
- Server Side Includes (SSI) support
- Design (and upload to) your site using Netscape or other HTML editing software
- Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions for those utilizing FrontPage
- Unlimited free access to your server via FTP/Telnet
- Easy access to your log files
- Statistics on visits to your site
- Referral Program

When selecting a web host, you must look at the entire picture prior to making your decision. You may find a host that charges $5.00 - $15.00 a month to host your site, however, their technical support may be poor, or your web site may be slow or down a lot.

A lower monthly payment may look appealing, but how much is it actually going to cost you in lost sales? Most likely much more than the amount you'll save.

Although there are many web hosting companies online, there are only two that I can recommend. They are as follows:

VIP PowerNet Web Hosting - VIP PowerNet web hosting provides web hosting, dedicated server, email, domain name, co-location, reseller hosting with 100% network uptime and technical support. Their web hosting plan starts from $4.15/mo.

Host4Profit - Professional web hosting specifically designed for the Internet marketer. $24.95/mo. for 300MB.

Take your time and select the host that best meets your needs. It will be well worth your time and effort in the long run.

How to find good Web Hosting for your site? by Jonathan White

When building your first site the main things that you will probably think about is what types of content you will be adding to your site, how you are going to get visitors to your site and how you are going to generate good revenue from your site.

Well, all of the things mentioned above are crucial things to consider, but then again, what's the point in thinking about them if you can't even get a good Web host to host your site with. If you choose a Web host that has a poor service then it can do more damage to your site than good. If your sites host goes down often then your site will also go down and your visitors will get annoyed and will go elsewhere. Your sites earnings will decline and many people online will ignore your site, as people will start to think that your site is down more than what it's up.

So now you are probably thinking to yourself, "where and how can I find a good Web host to host my site with, which is also reasonably priced?"

If you need a Web host that is reasonably priced so that you can make more profit from the turnover of your site, then a good place to start looking is by using a few Web hosting directories. You could start by using http://www.1hostseeking.com

Ok! Now your probably think "why would I want to use a Web hosting directory as they contain many Web hosting providers and not all of them are likely to be good."

The main reasons why you should use a Web hosting directory to find a Web host is so that you can easily find and compare a large amount of Web hosting providers that offer the services that you need to run your site successfully. You can also compare each Web host's prices against each other and then you will be able to find a reasonably priced Web host.

Once you have narrowed down your search to a few Web hosts from the Web hosting directory, you could then go to your chosen Web hosting providers sites and check them out to have a better understanding to what they offer. If they look good, then the best thing to do is not to purchase any hosting from them until you have checked them out more virally. Checking a Web host out to see if they are reliable can be done by searching through some of the major search engines for reviews on your chosen few Web hosts and also you can check through some of the larger forums that discuss Web hosting topics. If you can't find any information about the few Web hosts that you have narrowed down and chosen within any of the forums that you use, then you could always bring up that topic yourself and ask others what they think about your chosen Web hosts and if they have had any experiences with the them.

Once you have received other people's opinions about the Web hosts and you have also read a number of reviews about them, you will then have a better understanding of what Web host should be the best to use for you Website.

How to Choose a Web Host for Your Business Website by Cavyl Stewart

It is important to choose a reliable efficient and effective web host for your web business. You need to make sure that your web host offers all the features that you would require for your business web site.
Following is an overview of some of the most common requirements:

Disk space
You need to know if your web host offers enough disk space. If you plan to host a small sized website with few graphics and html coding, 10 to 20 MB of disk space might be quite sufficient.

Bandwidth
Bandwidth determines the amount of data transfer you are allowed per month. This would be determined by the level of traffic that you are expecting to attract to your website. Bandwidth of 1GB can support more than 3000 unique visitors, which should be sufficient for a small web business.

Pop email
If you are running a web business, you would need pop3 email facilities. This means that you can have an email address of your own domain. You don't need a lot of email addresses for a small website, but "unlimited aliases" feature allows you to have unlimited versions of email addresses going to the same email box. This makes it easier for you to filter your email. For example: order@domain.com for order related emails etc.

Free or paid
Should you pay for your web host or choose a free one? Both have their pros and cons. However, if you use a paid web host, you would have full control over the content of your website with no third party advertising. This would also create a more professional and reliable image of your web business.

CGI, MySQL, PHP, ASP
If you want to run interactive scripts (counters, form-to-mail, guest books) on your website you will need a CGI-BIN in your web hosting server. If you want your website to have a data base (mailing list, message boards) you would need php and MySQL facilities. ASP is also a data base related format that works with Windows servers.

Support
It is essential for a web host to give 24 hours customer support and address any problems of the customer immediately. You can check out the level of their support by emailing them before you setup an account with them. They should respond within 24 hours and answer all your questions in a satisfactory manner.

Cost
You can expect to pay anywhere from $10 to $30 for hosting a small website. If you are lucky, you can find a web host who will fulfill all your requirements at a reasonable price that suits your budget.

Uptime
Your web host should guarantee 99% uptime for your website. You can determine this by contacting some of their current customers. Some web hosts have a list of their customers on their website. If a list is not available, you can contact them and ask for testimonials from current customers about their level of service.
Try to choose your web host carefully, as having a reliable and efficient web host would help immensely in the success of your web business.

Web Site Hosting - An Easy Guide by Calin Indre

Web Site Hosting - An Easy Guide
Web Hosting - Made Simple

What is web hosting anyway? What do I get when I buy a web hosting solution?

To make thing clear from start let's just say how it all works.

Web pages basically consist of text and images. Generically, the information contained by these files is called content. The look of the web page is called design.

In order to be accessible to online users, all these files must be stored on a web server. You can think of web servers as computers storing the files of tens or hundreds of web sites. These computers are all connected to the Internet through high-speed connection. When you access a web page, your browser connects to the web server that stores that page and downloads it to your computer.

So a web server is a must when you plan to share your web site content with online users via the Internet. There are thousands of web servers in the world, and there are companies that own them. Such a company is called web-hosting provider.

A web-hosting provider can have dozens of web servers hosting thousands of web sites. The web server computers are found usually in large numbers and are all housed in special buildings or sections of buildings called data center . Apart from the high-speed Internet connection, these locations are set up to ensure the optimum operational conditions and security for the web servers. HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning) control, fire protection, virus protection, data backup facility, power backup, even autonomy in case of disaster. Another term for the web servers in the data center is a web farm.

To be able to run your site properly you need a space on the web server to store your data and an Internet connection to it. The amount of data available to you on a web server is simply referred as space and is usually quantified in MB. The Internet connection needed so that your web site can be accessed online is referred as bandwidth and is also measured in MB or even GB.

Having the glimpse of the basics, it must be said that different web-hosting providers offer different space and bandwidth. Space and bandwidth are usually the main characteristics of a web-hosting plan.

The terminology associated with web hosting can be quite dazzling: virtual web hosting, dedicated hosting; co-locating hosting, shared hosting reseller hosting.

Shared Web Hosting

Shared web hosting or virtual web hosting are two terms for the same thing. Shared web hosting means that on a web server are hosted many web sites that all have a defined quota of HDD space and bandwidth. They all run simultaneously and there can be from hundreds to thousands of web sites on the same web server. Given the high number of web sites should you worry about exceeding the performance of the web server, issue better known as slow server response, meaning that your visitors will have to wait too long for your web pages to load.

That is usually not a real problem when dealing with serious web hosting providers, because the operational parameters of the web servers are monitored and appropriate actions will be taken in order to maintain the level of service contracted.

The greater number of web sites sharing the resources of a web server (HDD space, bandwidth, memory, CPU time), the web hosting provider can afford to offer its services at a lower cost. A minus would be that, even with high level of service, you will have to accept a slower server response time when choosing shared web hosting.
Reseller Web Hosting

When web-hosting providers offer their services, typically with a discount, to a third-party (a reseller that will thus become a web-hosting provider itself) and the latter subsequently offers web-hosting services under his branding. Indeed technically the reseller web hosting is very similar to shared web hosting, as many web sites end up sharing space and bandwidth on the same web server. The resellers usually are web designers or web developers who offer web hosting services as part of their integrated services. As the web-hosting provider offers resellers important discounts, the price they can offer is among the smallest in the industry.

Compared with the shared web hosting, this system has technical support problem. It takes time and communication problems may occur on the course of your problem from the reseller to the web-hosting provider. Unless your site is a personal web site or non-commercial one, this poor support issue is enough to not consider this your primary option.

Continuing this line of thought, how can you distinguish a reseller from a real web-hosting provider? It's not the professional design of the web site, not even the support contact facilities offered as may resellers might have contracts with the provider on the technical support and the person taking your calls might be working for the provider and identify himself to you as an employee of the reseller. Solid company information is made available usually only by serious providers. The price, that can get as low as under 5$/month is another hint, but you should consider it carefully with prices dropping through the industry.

Dedicated Web Hosting

In dedicated web hosting one single web server is rented to a single customer. Although this is the common belief, web-hosting providers usually divide a single web server computer between up to three customers. On the other hand there are web-hosting providers that actually give an entire web server to a customer. Even with three customers sharing the web server, the dedicated web hosting option offers the customers the option to host more than one web site, configure the software to best meet the needs of his site or scale the available bandwidth.

The high prices combined with the availability of resources recommend this type of web hosting for highly important web sites such as e-commerce sites.

Co-location Web Hosting

Co-locating web hosting is similar with dedicated web hosting. The main difference is that while in dedicated web hosting the web server computer belongs to the web-hosting provider and is only rented by the customer, in co-locating web hosting the customer owns the web server computer. The web-hosting provider only houses the web server computer and sells bandwidth to the customer. This gives the customer using co-locating web hosting full control of the web server combined with the security of the data center.

Now you should be equipped with the necessary information to decide on you web hosting. You shouldn't try and find the lowest price possible, but give some extra thought to the quality of service you are buying and to the support offered by a web host provider.

How to Build a Web Server and Get your Own Domain - 7 Steps to Hosting your Site Yourself by Pedro Garcia

There are many reasons why you would want to have your website professionally hosted. However, some people are better off hosting their site themselves. For example, if you are starting a new business or playing with an idea that you are not sure will work, you might not want to pay a hosting company to host your site, at first. Hosting the site yourself
will allow you to save money that you can use to grow your business. Once your business starts growing and your site starts getting a lot of visitors, then you will find it necessary to pay a web hosting company to host it for you, but until then, you need to test the waters.

If you have a computer and a high speed internet connection (DSL/Cable) you can host your own website. You will need to keep your computer on and online 24/7, which might not be a big deal for you. Besides this, you need only to follow the 7 steps I describe below, to make your website available to users on the internet:

1) Install a web server: Most Windows operating systems either come with a web server, or one can be downloaded for free depending on the version of Windows. The web server is the program that runs in the background on your computer and listens to requests from people on the internet. It's the software that finds your pages in your computer and sends them to the users requesting it.

2) Configure the web server: In this step you simply tell your web server where to find your website that is sitting somewhere in your computer.

3) Get a domain name: Domain names exist only to make it easier for us humans to remember a website's address. The real address of a website looks something like this: 24.65.64.215. DNS takes care of keeping track of what domain name goes with what IP address. In this step you decide on the name that you want for your site and buy it from a provider. Domain names are cheap and you pay the fee only once a year.

4) Configure DNS: You can think of DNS as a database containing name-ip pairs that look like "(google.com, 24.65.64.215)." This is where you associate your website name with the IP address (the real address) of your computer so users are transferred to your computer when typing the name of your website. When someone types a domain name in their browser the domain name needs to be translated to the correct IP address of the computer that has the website.

5) Configure your router: When you have a router, users are actually connecting to your router when they type your website's address. The router needs to know which computer has the web page the user is looking for. Once it knows this, it can forward the request to the appropriate computer.

6) Solve the dynamic IP problem: Most people have a dynamic IP address. This means the IP address of your computer might change. This is a problem because DNS needs to know the IP
address of the computer that people need to be forwarded to when typing a domain name. There is a way to solve this problem without having to pay your ISP more money for a static IP. There are applications that will automatically update DNS when your IP changes.

7) Secure your server: The last step is to make sure your computer is protected from malicious programs on the internet by having the necessary software installed and
configured.

These are basically the steps required to host your website yourself. Of course, there are steps within these steps, but none of them difficult if you understand the concepts.
Depending on your situation, you might consider this a learning experience or just a way to save some money.

What Does ‘web Hosting’ Mean?

The term – web hosting – is used for the business of providing a space or server and maintaining files for one or more websites on the World Wide Web. web hosting is sometimes also termed as web site hosting. It includes dedicated hosting, shared and managed hosting. But, before making final arrangements to purchase web hosing, it’s always important to consider services or packages offered by different web hosts. Web hosts play an important role in web hosting. They offer web hosting packages at different prices. There are a number of web hosts offering web hosting services online.

What Is The Definition Of Web Hosting - A Simple Explanation

Nowadays, it is not unusual to hear technological words pertaining to computers and the internet. There are clearly a much higher percentage of people who have access to the World Wide Web than twenty to thirty years ago. People can now transfer information faster and in even in real time –information sent to the other side of the planet can be retrieved right this very minute by the recipient given s/he is online. This is possible partly because of web hosting.
But what is the definition of web hosting? Web hosting is defined as a type of internet hosting service that allows clients to provide their own websites that can be accessed thru the World Wide Web.

Various types of web hosting services are available for different types of clients. One of these is the free web hosting service. It is kept in service mainly by advertisements that generate profit once clicked. Anybody can have an access to this type of web hosting service though they do not have full control of their own web pages. Another is the unmanaged dedicated hosting service. A web hosting type that allows clients full access to their own web pages thus they are the ones that should be responsible for the maintenance of their own web pages.

As a whole, web hosting can be likened to a community. A web hosting site has a moderator controlling the traffic, maintaining the sites, and somehow overseeing other important internet protocols with the consent of the owners of the web addresses.

What Is Free Or Paid Web Hosting?

Your first question probably will be whether to choose free or paid hosting service.
Let's have a look at some advantages and disadvantages of these solutions.
Free web hosting:
(+) It's for free. You needn't to pay for domain name.
(-) Your URL will be something like http://username.freehost.com or http://www.allhottips.com /username. As I noticed above, the advantage is that you needn't to pay for domain. But note that if will move your website to another provider in the future you can loose some or all your traffic (there are some solutions how to solve this problem but it is not the point of this article).
(-) Your provider will probably include ads to your pages - usually 1 or 2 banners, sometimes popup windows. If you plan to use banner exchange on your site read carefully their Terms and conditions. Some free hosts doesn't allow it.
(-) Free hosts usually allow lower bandwith then paid hosts and a lot of them don't offer futures like PHP and MySQL.
(-) A lot of free hosts change their Terms and conditions during some time. If your free host offers hosting wihtout ads now, don't be surprised when banner or popup appears on your site in the future.
(-) Sometimes happens that free hosts cancel their free service and longer offer paid hosting only. In this case you have only 2 choises - pay them or loose your website.

Paid web hosting:
(+) You can host your own domain. If you decide to change the web hosting provider in the future, you easily transfer the domain to the new provider and don't loose your traffic.
(+) Most paid hosts offer 24/7 support via email or live chat and some of them provide toll-free phone support.
(+) You can expect better uptime then on free host. Some paid hosts offer uptime guarantee.
(+) Paid hosts usually offer enough disk space and bandwith. Futures like PHP and MySQL are standard. Even if you are not programmer you can download plenty of free PHP scripts from internet.(-) Paid hosting cost money (:-))

Before you make the decision if choose free or paid host you should answer this question: How big ambitions I have with my website?
If you are starting small personal page for your friends consist of a few *.html files then free host will be sufficient.
In case you plan to run serious business website, need PHP, database and don't want ads on the site I recommend to look for quality paid host.

Selection Of Perfect Web Hosting

How difficult it is to find perfect web hosting for your online business from thousand available web hosting companies on internet? It looks to find a needle in the haystack literally. Truly answer for a newbie comes more difficult even when he does know the basics of web hosting and especially do not know the commonly used terms in this hosting industry. To make this task bit easier you will have to define certain parameters about the requirement of your website so you can select ideal hosting that may not hurt you or your business in coming days.
The foremost thing while selecting a web host is to check the uptime guarantee provided by them. Most of the companies offer 99% uptime guarantee but the best web hosting company is one which never compromise on uptime and always ensures 99.9% uptime. Especially for business where clientage is the core thing for owner of website you can not afford to see your website down at any time.

Second issue is of customer support. It is the thing which should be focused and checked manually before signing up. Most of quality web hosting companies do offer their support 24 hours and 7 days in a week which is the best at approach. This support can be in different formats like phone facility, chat facility, support tickets and email correspondence. You must check any of these services by asking different questions of your satisfaction and check how quickly they respond you. This will help you later on in case you get in any problem either technical or of billing.

Nest thing to check for is the space and bandwidth allocated to your website. These days we are witnessing a common term of unlimited bandwidth and space. This can be a satisfaction to mind but it is never true so make sure you pay for only those things which you get in reality.

You should also check out which additional scripts are being offered to you by your company. Many web hosting companies do offer fantastico which is a set of free and easy to install scripts of blogs, forums, content management systems and such other things. In addition to this, take a look on features like MySQL, CGI, Cold Fusion and other audio and video capabilities. In some companies restrictions are made on number of MySQL databases which can let you down once you decide to add additional databases for your sub-domains.

Another feature to look for business related website is Secure Socket Layer (SSL). This is a feature that is normally not included in your package so you have to buy it as additional product. Websites which are offering credit card transaction facilities on their websites must have this feature as it adds an additional measure of security satisfaction for users.

Finally, its always been difficult for newbie to select perfect web hosting according to the demands of their business. Best thing for them is to just lay down the requirements and then compare different web hosting companies so they achieve their target successfully.

1. Professional Look and Feel.

2. Structured link navigation for easy access to buy or enquire.
Probably one of the most important features for a visitor is to easily navigate through your website to get the information they want instantly. The 3 click to info rule is the most a visitor will take before they give in and go elsewhere.

3. Primary sales message to engage in products/services.
This is about targeting the website to the needs of the visitor. When they land on your website in search of your product or service, be sure to state exactly what you’re offering from the start. The visitor will know they have landed on the right website and continue to browse.

4. Clear consumer confidence messages throughout the website.
These are the secondary pages that make up your web pages but very important for the vast majority of visitors. Privacy policy – If you’re encouraging visitors to join the newsletter or are using a customer database, it’s always advisable to stipulate a privacy policy. Terms Conditions – Well defined Terms and Conditions about how you manage the product or service you offer to the consumer, they will then know where they stand with you should something go wrong?

6. Contact Us page with email, telephone and postal address.
If a visitor is unsure of a service or product be sure to let them know that they can contact you. A telephone number is a clear sign that your happy to help and include your opening times or office hours. Contacts at all touch points will further instil customer confidence. Providing a standard HTML site map will help improve the indexing of your web pages and allow bots to find web pages that they might otherwise have missed. You can now also provide and submit an XML site map which all the major search engines have took on as a standard. Use your robots.txt to tell bots where to find your XML site map and also submit it to Google Webmaster Tools and Yahoo Site Explorer.

9. Testimonials for visitor confidence.
This has been proven to instill visitor confidence in an enquiry or buying decision. Visitors will look to see what positive experiences other visitors have had and it will persuade those visitors who are not quite sure to engage with you.

10. Hosting with fast response to load
Visitors will leave if it takes longer than 4 seconds to load. This is another critical factor, response times and availability, good UK web hosting services are essential. Is cheap web hosting always a desirable option? By: Kevin Frank

The hottest trend, the buzzing phrase and the latest fashion is to be connected through World Wide Web. If you wish to read the breaking news or play a game of Mario, you need to be hooked online. Chat with a friend, share your ideas, shop your essentials, bank your money and even debate on topics you can do all when you create a web presence or join the community of web mania.

Whatever be it, to make your presence worthwhile in the internet it is web hosting that is the talk of the town. With the mushrooming of several web hosting companies one need to make the right choice so that even it is low cost web hosting company, it should not be a cheap web hosting company with no credibility as the said domain is filled with fraudsters and marketing gimmicks.

Components of web hosting
Web hosting can be categorically divided into four essential components such as a purpose of the site, a domain name, site building software and most importantly the content. Then whenever you look out for a web hosting company you need to check on the speed besides disk space, additional domains, e-mail features and instant set up feature.

There exist free web hosting resources such as word press and bloggers.com. These free web hosting is a launch pad for many as these are most cost effective for many who wishes to make a head start with either launching a blog or an online discussion forum.

BR>
But one needs to go beyond ordinary realm of the free web hosting. For instance, if one intends to make presence in the internet with big business motives, one needs to look for a hosting package that categorically meets one requirements. However the limitations of free web hosting are limited access to certain scripts such as CGI or PERL, reduced band with capacity, restricted customer service options and sometimes one will be forced to use their ads on your site without any control of the contents of the ads.

The shift is thus towards budget web hosting companies as individuals always wish for high quality but at cheap price. But whenever you sign for a budget web hosting or discount web hosting its better that you check on its customer service availability, web server’s uptime and most importantly how long the company in service is so that credibility can be ascertained.

Cheap web hosting is desirable, but before you begin to monetize from your internet endeavor, it is essential that you get informed about web hosting basics so you get the right web presence either for an individual site or setting up a small business.

Start your website for as little as $10 By: Mike Masters

It may sound too good to be true, but it is a fact. You can now start a website and go live with a minimum investment and best of all you can do it on your own. It only takes basic level of understanding of html and CSS.
First thing that you need is a domain name and that is where your investment of $10 will be. After you register your domain name you need to find a free hosting provider. What you have to look for when making your pick is the amount of disk space that will be provided with the free hosting plan as well as the bandwidth and make sure you investigate thoroughly what limitations they have on there as for this to work out you will need also the hosting to be PHP enabled. Another thing that is very common for the free web hosting providers is that they very often put some kind of ads on the free pages – you don’t want that. Look for a one that will give you complete ad free hosting.
Next step is to install Wordpress. Wordpress is probably the most famous content management system / blogging platform today. It is really easy for installation and management.

Get the latest version from wordpress.org. It gives u all the flexibility that you will need – tons of free themes to customize the looks plus it has thousands of developers working everyday to come up with better and more plug-ins and widgets that you can use freely to make bring the functionality of your website to the desired level.
When your website is ready install Google Analytics so you will be able to track and analyze the traffic of your website. It is a marvelous tool if you want to be able to understand what is going on with your website and get better understanding based on that data what you can do to drive more traffic.
Hope this was helpful. It is just an outline of what I did when I started my first website and I felt like sharing it. It’s not like spoon-feeding but I urge you – go out there and take action, it’s not as hard as some people think it is. And don’t take expert opinions, go out there and test it yourself, that is the only way you can be sure what works and what doesn’t.

Tips for choosing the right web host and hosting plan. By: Sales Team

There are literally thousands of web hosts on the net today competing for your business. So how do you find the one that’s right for you? Here are a few general points to consider while you search and compare. We hope it helps.

Free Hosting
We should address this issue first, because many search for free hosting not realising the possible ramifications.

These MAY include:
- Hidden 'Adware' 'Spy' software
- Forced advertising on your pages
- Trojans, viruses and viral marketing
- Inconvenient server down times
- A hard to use, complicated control panel
- Limited, or no support
- Not being able to use your own domain name [URL]
- No full domain server management
- No full email management
- No bonus software saving hundreds of dollars
- No free website builder
- No ability to host 'multi' web sites from the one control panel
- No choice of servers in US, UK or Europe for example
- No free Marketing Tools
- No free scripts like Wordpress, Joomla, Mambo & more
- No easy 1 Click program installation
- No free text & video tutorials

If reliable paid web hosting was expensive, you could be forgiven for searching out any free hosting options. But these days you can buy incredible web hosting plans for literally a few dollars per month that avoids all the above potential issues.

We think it is well worth your while to check out what is available at very little cost these days. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Windows vs. Non Windows Servers
There are two types of hosting servers available to you – Windows and Non Windows servers like Linux for example. While some may insist one is better than the other, the bottom line is that both are quite able to host your website. Both can have easy to use control panels and host the same features. In fact, you may not even notice any difference when managing them.

Generally, Linux servers are more abundant and thus offer cheaper hosting plans.

However, websites that use. asp-scripted pages, which are unique to Microsoft will require a Windows server to host them. Linux type services perform the same tasks within a website via the more widely used .php scripted pages.

[Please note just because you may run a PC with a Windows operating system, you do NOT have to host your web site on a Windows server]

Shared Hosting.
Shared hosting is where you host your website on the one server along with other web sites, hence the name ‘shared hosting’.

This is not only the most economic way to host but also the most common method of hosting because the majority of websites simply do not need the full resources of their own server.

The only downside to shared hosting can be when a web host places too many websites on the same server resulting in the poor performance of your website. Fortunately, this is a rare occurrence, but should be kept in mind when considering very cheap hosts who may overload their servers to make a profit.

The alternatives to shared hosting include Semi Dedicated and Dedicated servers which as the name suggests gives you either lesser websites hosted with yours or a server completely reserved for your website. This however, this can be very costly and really only needed for specific high-end websites with very high data storage, transfer rates etc.

Server Location
You can sign up with a web host anywhere in the world resulting in your website being hosted on servers for example in the US, UK, Europe, Canada etc.

Although there is often debate on the net as to whether your website should be hosted within the country and therefore the market you are in, there is no firm evidence to suggest where you host your website has any adverse effect on its performance.

The domain name extension probably has more to do with this than where you host your site. For example, if you are in Australia, a .com.au domain may appear more readily in search results than a .com domain because people often select to search Australia in their search engine.

So you can take advantage of the best servers and rates you can find no matter where they are in the world, without fear of the location adversely affecting your websites performance.

Some hosts, like ourselves, which run multiply data centres across the globe, even let you select the location of the server to host your website.

Often clients will purposely choose a server in an opposite time zone, so when their market is accessing their website, the server itself is running on a local off peak time and therefore using lesser resources, increasing its performance.

Disk Space
All hosting plans will quote server disk space. This is the amount of space you can use on the server to host your website. These days you can buy huge disk storage space on plans in the gigabytes. More than you will ever use.

However, in the highly competitive business of web hosting more is considered better. Hence some hosts promote huge data storage amounts, which they suspect no one will ever use, but it promotes well.

However, problems arise, if clients actually manage to use those huge quotas and in doing so drain the shared server resources resulting in the host suspending their account.

How can they do that, I hear you say?

Well in nearly every case these hosts cover themselves within their Terms and Conditions with a Fair Use Policy. Within this Fair Use Policy, they qualify how this storage quota should and should not be used, giving them an opportunity to restrict or suspend your account.

Hosts offering, ‘unlimited’ disk storage, especially use this form of qualification. Simply read through their Terms and Conditions and you will find qualifications that do place limits on disk space.

The bottom line is, unless you intend to use a very large amount of disk space, you should never have a problem. But do not be fooled into thinking that the hosts that advertise ‘unlimited’ disk storage are any better than those who do not.

We think it is better to openly state the disk storage limited on a hosting plan so potential clients know exactly what they are buying.

Monthly Traffic
This feature relates to the number of visitors the server receives via your website each month and the amount of information downloaded from your site. Most hosts offer very generous amounts which again, the average website will never exceed.

BR>
But just like with disk space as explained above, no matter what the amount quoted [especially unlimited], you will nearly always find qualifications within the hosts Terms and Conditions, so please check.

Domains Hosted
Many hosts now offer what is called ‘Multi-domain’ web hosting where you can host more than one domain/website on the one plan.

You may only intend to host one website at this point, but it can be a great advantage to have the future option should the need arise, to host more, at no extra cost. It means you can host your business website and still host a family or personal interest website as well.

Again hosts should offer you scalable plans, depending on how many domains you wish to host. And again some hosts will advertise ‘unlimited’ domains on their plans, but remember this may be qualified within their Terms and Conditions and is definitely limited by the plans disk storage amount.

Domain Registration
Many hosts also offer domain name registration as an added service. This is a great opportunity to buy and store your domains in the one control panel saving you the hassle of multiple accounts.

While some hosts may not be quite as cheap with their domain costs as a dedicated domain registrar, when you way up the huge advantage of keeping your domains and website together safely with the one control panel, the time saving alone outweighs any small cost variance.

Also make sure your domain registrar allows full management access to your domain in the registration fee. That is, access to your Name Server, Domain Forwarding, Parking, and Redirection etc. Some domain registrars advertise very cheap registration fees only to find out later that you have to pay for full management access, which they regard as an extra.

Control Panel
This is really important and can make or break a website hosting plan. Many cheap hosts offer very confusing control panels that can take you ages to work out how to perform the simplest of web site management tasks. Just setting up a simple email account can be a nightmare.

Chose a web host that offers an easy, user-friendly control panel even if it costs a few dollars more. Better still go with a host that offers a DEMO control panel. Take the opportunity to test-drive it, before you buy.

Databases
Make sure the plan you buy offers you access to at least one database. While you may think you do not need one, chances are you will need one in the future. Many web software programs these days offer you the opportunity to create, password protected areas, polls, mailing lists etc, all which use databases.

Free Website Builder
Good web hosts offer a wide range of free bonus software with hosting plans, the most widely used of which is a FREE web site builder. You can save a lot of money in not having to buy web creation software this way. Firstly, check that the host has such a free program and better still check that they have a fully working ‘demo’ area for you to test the software before you buy.

Bonus Software
Many web hosts include a huge selection of bonus software/scripts to enhance your hosting plan. The two many systems offered to deploy these scripts are ‘Fantasico’ or ‘Elephante’.

These two systems will automatically install [with just 1 click] a long list of scripts including, image galleries, CMS, calendars, forums, blogs, ecommerce etc.

Here is a sample of the scripts you could receive all for FREE:

Flexibility to upgrade plans without penalty.
Firstly, make sure your host offers larger hosting plans should you ever need to upgrade your plan in the future. You can then save money by starting off with a small inexpensive hosting plan with the peace of mind that you can upgrade if necessary.

But you should also check that you can upgrade without penalty. Some hosts will upgrade you to a larger plan by charging you the full 12 month cost of the new plan, meaning you lose the remaining time left to run on your existing plan. Make sure the host provides for pro-rata upgrades where any unused time/money left on your existing plan is credited against your upgrade.

Support
Without doubt the most important aspect of any hosting plan is support. You want to know that if you have a problem, you can get help fast.

Check that your host offers 24/7 phone/ticket support and in the case of ticket support, that you do not have to wait hours for a response. Some cheap web hosts can keep you waiting for over 12 hours for an answer.

A good web host should guarantee to respond to your support tickets within a maximum 1 hour 24/7.

Price
The last but by no means least, is the price. We always say when dealing with price – “don’t buy the cheapest – buy the best value”. By this we mean compare each host by the criteria above and reward those hosts that openly and fairly offer the best plans even if they appear to be a few dollars more.

You can get all the benefits listed above in a web hosting plan and more, for just a few dollars per month. Plus when you consider that this low cost plan should also allow you to host more than the one website as well, its incredibly inexpensive.

One last word of caution when dealing with price, do not get fooled by the hosts that advertise a very low monthly hosting fee up front, only to find out in the checkout that you have to sign up for up to 2, 3 or even 5 years to get it.

Summary.
We hope these few pointers will help you in your search for a reliable web host.

If all else fails and you are still struggling to make a decision, email the hosts on your short list with your concerns and gauge the timeliness and quality of their response.
